A quick update. We tried out the AP over the weekend. It was dramatically better than the old one under all conditions - even steered the boat on a broad reach in 20+ knots when we sailed from SF to Redwood City yesterday. I didn't fool with any of the settings. Just turned it on and pressed "Auto." Thanks for all your help getting it going.

Ray's system uses a Lecomble & Schmitt hydraulic actuator, 12 V, model 40 with a rudder sensor.
